WELCOME TO RJDavin.com!
My name is Raymond John Davin and I’m the author of famous book THE WORST DAY – The novel of the great war. I live in Sydney, Australia. I’m very interested in history and politics. I was always fascinated by the story from the Book of Daniel in the Bible about a hand appearing in mid-air to write a mysterious message on a wall, prophesying the fall of a great nation.
I read a lot of history books and some years ago read a book on the ghastly Battle of Verdun in WW1.
The battle took place in 1917 between French and German troops. The Germans introduced a new tactic at this time, ‘attrition’ that bled the French army white and led to the mutiny of the French Army.
I was also inspired by the movie, ‘Paths of Glory’ staring Kirk Douglas and directed by Stanley Kubrick.
It is a very powerful anti-war movie depicting the mutiny of French soldiers in WW1 and the innocent scapegoats who paid a heavy price.
I put the two ideas together and was inspired to write of this battle as I believe it was the beginning of the decline of France as a world power.
I also wanted to show how people can do terrible things to each other and rationalize to them that it is the only answer.
Essentially, I think that is what the book is all about, human conduct, and I hope that the reader will find it interesting and entertaining.
